4 facts about dogs that will make you smile

Did you know that the dogs we know today most likely came from an extinct breed of wolves? The most likely group of wolves who became domesticated thousands of years ago were likely kicked out  of their own packs and relied on humans for easy access to food from leftovers and protection from larger predators. Humans most likely kept them around because they like that dogs warned against upcoming dangers via barking. Did you know that Russian street dogs know how to use the subway?! They have been known to ride a train and get off at specific stops. It’s likely that they use their extreme sense of smell to identify where they are.  Pep the dog was framed for murder and you can’t convince me otherwise. Pep the dog was put on trial for an alleged murder of a cat… however there was a lack of evidence and the plaintiff even admitted that he did not commit the crime. Pep's real crime you may ask???!!! Chewing up a sofa. He was still sentenced to life in prison. FREE MY DAWG PEP. Ever won

These dogs were arrested for crimes they didn't commit

Most dogs commit a few crimes in their life - chewing your favorite pillow, stealing your socks, harassing government employees carrying documents protected by the federal government (barking at the mailman)... to name a few. But these are some dogs that faced time for their crimes. Bean the pug Bean the pug committed the crime of running away from home. While she was on the run a police officer happened to notice her in a yard she did not belong to. Officer Michael LeSage tried to get her to hop into his car but her legs were way too short and he had to lift her. They posted the dog's mugshot on facebook and her owner came by a few hours later to pay her bail. According to the officers, Bean’s bail was paid in cookies.  Pep the Dog Pep was a good natured dog according to all of his friends. Why do dogs align themselves with Earth's magnetic field?

It’s 40 degrees out with a wind chill that makes it 35, you’re in your pajamas with two mismatched shoes, all because your dog had a rush call to go potty. Now that you’re out there, he’s taking forever to find the perfect spot. No quite literally, forever. Well you’re dog isn’t just trying to find the perfect spot he’s also trying to align it with the earth's magnetic field.  Scientists in the Czech Republic and Germany examined over 7,000 potty breaks. They ruled out wind, sun, and any other element that could interfere with the dog’s decision. They found the only other factor would be the Earth’s magnetic field. When the magnetic field was stable, the dogs continuously pooped on the north-south axis and continuously avoided the east-west axis. So your dog isn’t just finding a random spot to drop a doody, it’s analyzing the earth’s magnetic field.

Do Dogs Have a Language?

Dogs, being social creatures, love to communicate! But they don’t speak like humans do. Dogs communicate through body language, barks, and scents! Here are translations of the most common dog phrases:  Body language Soft eyes, ears forward, and an open mouth = Relaxed Eyes to the left/right, ears back, and clenched teeth = Anxiety/fear Shown teeth, forward ears, and staring = Intimidation Bowing = your pup wants to play! Rearing their hind legs = affection to other dogs A downwards head = sadness Head held high = interest Barking Dogs use barking to frequently communicate with each other! They use different pitches and volume to communicate how they are feeling. Scent Since dogs have over 220 million scent receptors they can pick up emotional cues! Ever wonder why dogs sniff each other’s butts? Its cause they can tell the dogs age, sex, and emotions just from their butt!
