Dogs can make anyone smile. Here are some fun facts about dogs that will leave you smiling:
Dogs can sniff medical problems
Dogs can sniff out cancer, diabetes, seizures, migraines, and a number of other diseases. Because dogs have over 220 million scent receptors, dogs can smell things humans wouldn’t even think of smelling.
Head-size is a large predictor on how well a dog can hear. A study conducted by the University of Lincoln studied the hearing ranges from tiny chihuahuas all the way to St. Bernard's. The research showed that dogs with wider heads have lower sensitivity for higher-frequency sounds.
Dogs can smell feelings
Dogs have the ability to smell how you are feeling emotionally and can even adopt your emotions as well. A study conducted by University of Naples “Federico II” proved this to be true. They showed human volunteers videos that would make them feel sad, scared, happy, or neutral. Then they collected samples of the odors released by the volunteers and presented it to dogs. Surprisingly, the dogs exposed to the fear and sad smells were more anxious than the dogs who were exposed to happy or neutral smells.
Identical twins can happen in a puppy litter but it is very rare
It is often assumed that puppy twins happen all the time. Especially since most litters look alike. However, true identical dog twins are very rare. How can you tell if puppies are twins or not? Puppies are known to be twins when they share the same umbilical cord attachment or placenta.
